Shoot 4 Matt
Sunday 16th May 2010

A team of Leicester councillors took to the football pitch this Sunday 16th May to support Islamic Relief UK's "Dare 2 Care" challenge for the Matt Hampson Trust.
The five-a-side team - led by Cllr Wayne Naylor, city council cabinet member for health and community safety will be hoped to better their record at previous tournaments.
Cllr Naylor said: "The team has decided to return to the pitch to support the Matt Hampson Trust. And if we take our performance at last year's event in support of the Special Olympics as a benchmark, the only way is up. We might even score a goal this year.
"Events like this are a great way of getting out into the community and promoting the benefits of physical activity. It's a great laugh and we really enjoy it."
Team members include High Bailiff Cllr Colin Hall, Cllr Patrick Kitterick, Cllr Deepak Bajaj and Cllr Mian Mohammed Mayat, with city council sports marketing manager (and former Foxes goalkeeper) Steve Humphries.
Cllr Hall said: "It will be great to get back out on the pitch. We'll be relying on Steve in goal while we do whatever we can to better last year's performance - there's some real competition in the team to see who will be the first councillor to actually score a goal!"
The 'Shoot4Matt' five-a-side tournament took place at Goals Soccer Centre, Wakerley Road.
The event was organised by Islamic Relief in support of the Matt Hampson Trust. Salim Yusuf Lorgat, East Midlands fundraiser for Islamic Relief UK, said: "On behalf of Islamic Relief I would like to thank everyone involved, our amazing volunteer Jinx for putting this together with Goals, The Trophy Parlour for its generosity, Steve for his inspiring words and motivation and all the teams for taking part.
"It is deeply humbling to see so many people supporting our Shoot4Matt event."
